Ideas for Painting a Child's Table

Ideas for Painting a Child's Table

Give your child a unique piece of furniture by painting a table for her bedroom. Choose a bedside table or an activity table, where the child can paint, draw or do homework. Use lots of color and incorporate the child's interests. Choose wooden furniture, which is easy to paint -- and repaint, as the child gets older. Before painting a piece of furniture, clean it thoroughly and sand it down. Apply a layer of primer and you're ready to paint.

Clouds

Bring the outside in with a cloud design. Choose a shade of blue for the sky and paint the entire surface of the table. Once this is dry, add clouds by dipping a small, round sponge in white paint and dabbing it onto the blue to make cloud shapes.

Learning

Paint numbers or the letters of the alphabet on a table to make learning a focal point in your child's bedroom. Cover the table with a base color, then use bright colors to paint the letters or numbers.

Hand Prints

Use finger painting and hand prints to get your child involved in the project. Apply a base color, then help your child dip her hands in paint and press them onto the table. Include single and pairs of hand prints. As your child gets older, she can place her hands on the hand prints to see how she has grown.

Stencils

Decorate the table with easy-to-use stencils. Choose pictures that will fit in with the overall theme of the bedroom or include pictures that the child will like, such as animals, cars, rockets or flowers. Select a base color that will match the other colors in the bedroom, then stencil small or large designs on the table and even the chairs.
