Decoration Ideas for Kids Tables

Decoration Ideas for Kids Tables

Holiday gatherings, weddings and other family events with an adult atmosphere require tables specifically for the kids. Don't let the children think they are being shunted aside; ensure your party is fun for young and old alike. Decorate the kids' table with items that match your overall theme but are kid friendly and designed to keep the little ones entertained. Does this Spark an idea?

Favors

Favors are a staple of many events. Even if you aren't using them on the adult tables, consider them for the children's tables. Bubbles are perfect for an outdoor event. If you are using small decorative bubbles as part of your adult favors at your wedding, use full-size bottles for the kids. Place the bottle in the center of a circle of tulle and gather the tulle around the rim of the bottle. Wrap a ribbon around the neck of the bubble bottle and tulle then tie the ribbon in a bow to secure. These bottles will match your decor but are in a kid-friendly size. Alter adult favors to make them more interactive for the kids.

Use small coloring books and crayons as favors for the kids. Place them in theme-appropriate gift bags or drawstring sacks. Kids enjoy opening them, and the favors keep them busy. Package an assortment of craft supplies, and the kids will be entertained for the whole party.

Table Linens

Use the same tablecloth on the children's table as you do the adult ones so your theme is carried throughout the room. Use place mats to protect the linens and add more entertainment value to the decor. Paper activity place mats are available at party stores and can fit the theme of the event whether it's a wedding or Christmas dinner.

Make chalkboard placemats for each of the kids. Rough up the surface of a plain vinyl placemat with sandpaper then cover in 2 to 3 coats of chalkboard paint. Allow it to dry completely then write the child's name in one corner or across the top with a paint pen. Include a drawstring bag with various colored chalk at each setting. The kids will enjoy doodling on their placemats and will be thrilled when they find out they get to keep them. These placemats are elegant enough to be used at the adult tables too.

Centerpieces

Bored kids may destroy centerpieces, so make sure yours are meant to be played with. Keep the age of the children in mind when designing the centerpieces, and avoid items that could pose a choking hazard.

Camouflage crayons and markers inside a flower arrangement. Purchase artificial flowers of the same variety as those used in the rest of the centerpieces. Also get a collection of washable markers. Hold the stem of a flower against the marker then wrap floral tape around the entire length of the marker to secure them together and make the stem.

Use a metal or plastic version of your main centerpiece containers to display the flowers. Give each child plenty of paper to draw on. Instead of one central centerpiece, make smaller versions of the arrangements and place them at each child's setting.
