How to Make a Sectional Work in the Living Room

How to Make a Sectional Work in the Living Room

Sectional sofas are versatile furniture pieces that can be arranged to suit almost any size living room. Such sofa pieces can also be moved as needed for parties and entertaining purposes, as additional bedding for overnight guests, or simply moved around for family game nights. As the sofa is of the living room's main focal points, arrange it with other focal points in mind, such as bay windows, fireplaces and entertainment units. Does this Spark an idea?

Instructions

    1

Arrange the sectional in your living room based on your living room's size and which type of sectional will look best. Some sectionals have a rounder, almost oval shape, some form a slight "V" shape, while others feature an "L" shape. Smaller living rooms can benefit from more compact "V" shapes while larger living rooms can accommodate almost any size and style of sectional. If your living room is on the smaller size, measure its dimensions before purchasing a sofa.

    2

Place the sectional against a wall that is opposite the room's main window or other focal points, such as an entertainment center or fireplace. Position it one-half to 1 foot away from the wall rather than up against the wall.

    3

Use a coffee table that suits the shape of the sectional. For example, use rounder coffee tables for rounder sectionals and rectangular or L-shaped tables for L-shaped sofas.

    4

Arrange side tables on one or both sides of the sectional depending on space constraints. Use curved tables for sectionals that curve inward and square or rectangular tables for L-shaped sectionals.
