Aside from the common place setting pieces we all know so well, accessories can make a dinner table come alive. With color, texture and specific emphasis, a meal can become one to truly remember. These pieces are of greater importance when designing a table for a wedding reception, a formal dinner party or a gathering for the holidays. Does this Spark an idea?
Instructions
- 1
Recognize the centerpiece that provides color and sets the tone for the event. The centerpiece will typically consist of flowers, candles or small themed trinkets. On a round or square table, look for a floral arrangement in the center of the table. On a rectangular or oval table you will notice several centerpieces. On oblong tables, it is common to find candles lining the length or trinkets set up to exaggerate the party theme.
2Notice the intricate details of the place cards at each seat. The cards may be formal and include a folded note or a hand- written name. Unusual place cards might consist of fruits or plants to hold a name tag, a miniature topiary plant or a favor item (bubbles, candy and the like) with preprinted names for guests.
3Look beneath the plates to identify the place setting mats. These may be common oval or rectangular mats with a simple pattern, or they could represent a part of the theme for the dinner. For example, you may notice the mats are shaped like flowers or animals to highlight the party theme. Mats might also incorporate a floral design in a specific color or tone for special occasions such as weddings.
4See the napkin or linens set on the top, right side or on top of the plates. Napkins for formal dining will likely be cotton linen with specific markings and colors. For special-occasion dining, themed napkins are common. The napkins and linens will likely be rolled or folded and placed neatly near the place setting.
