In general, curved sofas have a modern look, which means that the decor in your living room will also need to be modern so as not to clash with the couch. Apply elements of modernism, such as minimalism and asymmetry, to the decor in your home. Another aspect of curved sofas is that they create a large space in the middle of the room. Learning how to take advantage of these aspects will help you to decorate your room appropriately. Does this Spark an idea?
Instructions
- 1
Keep it simple. A major element of modernism and postmodernism is minimalism. Stay away from objects that are too busy, bright or "loud."
2Add an ottoman that matches the fabric and color of the sofa. Because curved sofas bend around an area, they create an emptiness in the middle of the room. Fill this with an ottoman, which also acts as a practical device.
3Add a curved table to the space created by the curved sofa. Match the table with the color of the sofa, or stick with one that's glass. Curved tables will fit the space better, as well as add a modern touch.
4Study the color wheel (see link in "Resources") before you choose paint for your room. Avoid pastels, bright colors or busy patterns, as these are contradictory to modern style. Choose bold colors or colors that contrast with your sofa to make it stand out more. For instance, a black sofa will stand out in a white room, or a yellow sofa will stand out in a blue room.
5Add asymmetrical decorations to the room. Put bookcases with varying shelf heights against the wall behind the couch. Hang paintings that taper down a wall, instead of hanging them all at the same height. Put the TV off to the side of the room, instead of in the center. with each new art movement, contradict the placement before it.
6Add curved bookshelves and picture frames, round pillows and sculptures to your room to match the theme of a curved sofa.
