What Furniture Should an After School Program Have?

After school programs give children a place to go to cooperate with others, learn ideas and methods, and play for a couple of hours. After-school programs are not an extension of the school day; instead it provides fun activities that will keep children safe and away from harmful or inappropriate behavior. There are several pieces of furniture an after-school program should consider purchasing to create a comfortable environment in which children can interact and learn.

Teacher Desk or Table

A teacher desk should be present inside an after school facility or classroom because teachers are usually interacting with children by helping them with their homework or other materials. Another reason for having a teacher's desk is that it gives staff an area to place their items or to show children certain projects. A table is also useful if a room is too small to place a desk or if the staff needs more space.

Chairs

Chairs are essential for children and teachers to sit on while doing homework or creating projects. Depending on the comfort of the chairs, they are also good for reading and relaxing.

Activity Tables

Activity tables are better suited for an after school program compared with desks because children can work together on assignments and projects. Since the programs are after school and more laid back, children can interact with each other more at activity tables by playing games, reading or drawing.
