A simple wood sofa tray should be inexpensive and easy to find, but are usually in sets of four that cost more than $100. Using basic tools and materials you most likely can rummage through your garage and find, you can create your own sofa tray. The finished product can be as tasteful as any you could buy, yet completed in a day. Does this Spark an idea?

Drill two holes along the width of the 12" x 9" wood piece, then two corresponding holes along the edge of the 7 1/4" x 24 1/2" upright support piece. Drill two more holes on top of the 12" x 9" piece, this time placing them perpendicular to the holes that now run along the side. Screw the 12" x 9" base to the 7 1/4" x 24 1/2" piece. Using screws, attach the first 2 3/4" x 7 1/2" wood brace to the 12" x 9" base.
2Drill three holes in the other 2 3/4" x 7 1/2 "support piece, one at the nose, then another along the length of it and two at either end of the short side. Drill two holes in the flat surface of the 12" x 14" sofa tray top, allowing for a 3" overhang.
3Drill two vertically positioned holes at the top end of the 2 3/4" x 7 1/2" support piece. The holes should correspond with the support piece. Screw the tray top, support and brace together. Add a coat of polyurethane to your fully assembled sofa tray and let it dry.
