How to Decorate a Turret Sunroom

How to Decorate a Turret Sunroom

A turret is round tower that extends from a room or corner. The origin of the word "turret" is Italian; the design originally was seen in Medieval construction and can still be seen in castles through Europe. Turrets are also found in modern construction, albeit more rarely than they once were. This architectural detail can be difficult to decorate. However, keeping to a few distinct design principles can make decorating a turret a simple and rewarding task. Does this Spark an idea?

Instructions

    1

Clear the room of existing decor and bring in your round area rug. Place it in the center of the space.

    2

Bring in your curved sofa and place it in a location that is aesthetically pleasing. The only rule is to allow the curve of the sofa to echo the curve of the area rug. In other words, don't place the sofa right in the center of the room; instead, place it at the edge of the rug.

    3

Bring in your square coffee table and place it inside the concave area of your curved sofa. Allow 16 to 24 inches of space between the table and the sofa for adequate legroom. Using the square table against the curved sofa will add visual interest and contrast.

    4

Carry in the wing-back chair and place it adjacent to the sofa. Make sure all of your seating faces the center of the room.

    5

Place one side table at the end of the couch and the other near the chair. Place the smaller lamps on each of the tables.

    6

Hang a tapestry on the wall behind the sofa. Unlike traditional wall art, tapestries will conform to the curve of the wall without adding bulk. If your turret sunroom is wall-to-wall windows, hang tapestries over your windows as coverings. Roll them up and secure with straps to let in light.

    7

Position tall standing vases on either side of the entry way to the room. Place your choice of objects or plants inside the vases.
