Outdoor furniture of any kind needs special precautions to prevent moisture penetration. Legs for outdoor dining tables should be laminated with waterproof resin glue. Waterproof glue will never lose its grip. Lamination provides a split-proof leg because of overlapping grain patterns. Laminated legs also provide strong stability to any table. With the extra weight of laminated legs, any outdoor table will stand up to the elements. Laminate two pair of boards together to produce four legs.
Instructions
- 1
Mix the resin glue with water, according to manufacturer's directions.
2Lay two of the boards parallel to each other, perpendicular across two sawhorses. Brush a wet coat of glue on the boards with a paint brush.
3Place a dry board on top of each wet board. Place two of the boards on top of the other two boards to form a stack of four boards.
4Place clamps around the perimeter of the boards, spaced eight inches apart and tighten until glue oozes out between the boards. Let the glue dry for 24 hours.
5Remove the clamps. Scrape off any residual dry glue with a glue scraper. Set the table saw fence at two inches. Run each board through the table saw to produce four legs, 2 1/2-by-2 1/2-by-36 inches.
6Trim and square the ends of the legs using a miter saw. Round the corners and sand the legs smooth with a 100-grit sandpaper attached to an orbital sander.
