How to Make a Circular Table Cloth

A round table with an appropriate tablecloth is a beautiful accent piece that adds warmth and color to any room. Depending on what you like, you can make a small piece to just cover the top of the table, or have it trailing to the bottom to provide hidden storage place under the table. Once made, dress up your round tablecloth with embellishments or fancy trim to make a decorative piece that will stand out.

Instructions

    1

Measure the diameter of the table to determine how much fabric you need and jot it down on the notepad.

    2

Measure the distance from the top of the table to the floor or the desired drop length and double it. Add this figure to the diameter along with an inch for hem allowance. The final figure is the required length and width of the finished circular tablecloth.

    3

Cut the full width fabric according to the calculated length. Cut another full width panel of fabric the same length, and stitch it to the first piece in the center. You will now have a large square piece of fabric.

    4

Fold the fabric in half lengthwise and half again width-wise.

    5

Place the fabric on a flat surface such as a dining table a clean floor and pin the layers to hold them in place.

    6

Half the finished circular tablecloths measurement and note it down or mark it on the measuring tape.

    7

Measure the calculated amount from the corner folds to the bottom edge by sliding the end of the measuring tape upward and marking an arc along the fabric with chalk. The mark should end at the upper edge.

    8

Cut along the marked arc or quarter circle through all the layers of fabric carefully. You will now have a circular piece of fabric in the desired diameter along with the necessary hem allowance.

    9

Place the fabric right side down on an ironing board. Fold -inch hem all the way round along the edge. Then fold another -inch.

    10

Pin the folds to hold them in place while you sew the hem around the edge by hand or machine. Sew decorative trim to the outer edge if you have any.

    11

Press the finished tablecloth carefully to remove any fold, creases or wrinkles before spreading it on the table.
