How to Create an Accent for a Royal Blue Chair

Color creates mood. Coordinating items by color creates subtle, relaxing or vibrant and energetic environments. Decorating our home falls into this idea. Once a color is chosen for the walls of a room, we accent the furniture, accessories and decor with contrasting or complementary colors. Choosing an accent to go with a royal blue chair coordinates colors using basic color theory and a color wheel. Does this Spark an idea?

Instructions

    1

Use a color wheel to find complementary colors to accent royal blue. Choose shades of yellow or red as primary colors that coordinate with royal blue. Consider secondary linked colors such as violet, orange and green.

    2

Use the color wheel system to add a pillow, throw blanket or a stuffed animal toy on the chair as an accent piece. Select an old-fashioned, hand-sewn rabbit toy made of dark crushed purple velvet to place on the chair. Place a lemon yellow decorative pillow in the corner of the chair. Drape a small, lap-sized throw blanket woven with green and royal blue threads over the back of the chair.

    3

Coordinate the royal blue chair with the wall colors. Paint the walls a deep gold color, and accent the room with gold drapery. Place the royal blue chair near a window. Place a pillow on the chair made of similar fabric as the drapes.

    4

Make the room be an accent for the chair. Paint the walls of a small sitting room white. Include a small white table with a blue vase, and fill it with white daises. Place a small white pillow on the royal blue chair. Accent the room with a royal blue rug on the floor. Paint book cases and other accent furniture items in the room white, and coordinate with blue accessories such as candles or bowls.
