Finding the perfect tablecloth for a small round table can be frustrating. Having a coordinating tablecloth for side and accent tables can take a room from boring to elegant. Instead of wasting time searching for the right tablecloth, spend one afternoon making your own. Does this Spark an idea?

Sewing a Table Skirt
- 1
Figuring the amount of fabric for your skirt is a simple math formula. Measure the diameter of the table's top and the distance between the the top and the floor. Now, add the diameter to twice the distance.
Say, for example, the tabletop measures 48 inches and the distance equals 30 inches. Adding 48 plus 60 gets you 108 inches which is the diameter of the fabric circle needed for the table skirt.
2Most decorator fabric comes in a width of only 54 inches. To get your 108-inch wide circle of fabric, you will need to sew two pieces together. You will need six yards (216 inches) of your selected fabric for one tablecloth - two 108-inch lengths both 54 inches across.
3Fold your six yards of fabric in half lengthwise and cut across the width. I'll refer to one piece as "A" and the other "B." Now, cut piece B in half lengthwise. You should now have three pieces of fabric.
4Lay your three pieces of fabric on a flat surface, wrong side facing up, with piece A in the center. Set the two parts of piece B on either side of A. Align the fabric edges and pin them together on both sides of piece A. Sew these two seams together. Iron the seams open.
5Fold your sewn fabric lengthwise, right sides facing each other, and measure to find the exact center on the fold. Mark this spot with chalk.
6Pin the end of your measuring tape to the marked spot. Using your measuring tape like a math compass, measure and mark points 54 inches out from the center in a semi-circle. Connect the marks and cut the fabric. When complete, you should have a circle of fabric measuring 108 inches across.
7Fold the edges of the circle under a quarter inch and iron. Sew this fold down, making sure its folded toward the wrong side of the fabric. Iron again and lay on your table. Add fringe or trim to the hem if you like.
You can also make another smaller skirt to lay on top of the first if want a layered look. Just cut the above measurements in half. Before you know it, all your tables will have lovely skirts.
