The space at the top of a staircase is often overlooked when decorating a home. Using the space as a functional part of the home gives you additional room while enhancing your homes dcor. Depending on the amount of space you have, you can use it for seating, storage or simply as a decorative accent. Adding wallpaper or paint helps to draw the eye up the stairs to your decorated hallway. Does this Spark an idea?
Instructions
Accent Table
- 1
Paint the wall facing the stairs in an intense accent color to highlight the area. For example, choose a deep blue or brown that complements the rest of your dcor.
2Position a long, narrow table or chest along the wall so that it is visible from the stairs. Choose an unusual piece for this locale since it doesnt have to fit with other furniture. Use the drawers for extra storage.
3Place a painting above the table to complete the dcor of the space. Put a tall lamp on the end of the table to give accent lighting for the upstairs hall. Arrange decorative accents on the table.
4Place a tall potted plant beside the table. Use an artificial plant unless your space has a window for light.
Bench Seat
- 5
Apply wallpaper to the wall facing the stairs.
6Place a bench with a decorative seat cushion along the wall. Add accent pillows to the back of the bench. The bench provides seating to put on shoes before going downstairs.
7Hang a decorative mirror above the bench for last minute glances before leaving the house.
Reading Space
- 8
Place two upholstered chairs at the top of the stairs, if you have a large space.
9Put a small round table between the chairs.
10Place a lamp with a 3-way bulb on the table, allowing you to use the chairs for reading or a quiet conversation.
11Place a basket beside one of the chairs for reading material.
